AMD introduced its new Radeon HD 7850, codenamed "Pitcairn," on March 4th, 2012. Pitcairn follows Tahiti architecture which represents a departure from previous architectures for AMD. The Radeon HD 7850 GPU itself is comprised of 2.8 billion transistors packed into 1024 stream processors with a clock speed of 860MHz. There are 64 texture units and 32 ROPs.
The Radeon HD 7850 is designed to be paired with 2GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256bit bus, running at 1200MHz for a 5.0Gbps data rate and a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 153.6GB per second. The typical board power is only 150 Watts which will provide more efficient and lower overall power consumption.
